About
So who is this guy?
Professionally
I'm a Solver of Ambiguous Problems™ at Amazon.
I lead, design, build, manage, and advise on tech product development on both my immediate team and many others. To some degree I'm a professional learner. I'm trusted to get up to speed quickly on new technologies and advise a path forward. Frequently I'm referred to as an "explorer" and/or "research and development", scouting out ahead for what's coming and returning to combine the best ideas, both old and new, for effective results. I'm also known for my focus on efficiency, high standards of quality, and ability to "speak the language" of designers, developers, and leadership alike. Paraphrasing senior leaders at Amazon: "We can assign you to almost any problem and be assured that great progress and results will happen."
Personally
I'm a new father, husband, and cat dad.
In the public sphere I've been a scuba diver at the Seattle Aquarium for a decade, sharing the underwater world and inspiring conservation in the public. I also work with aquarium staff on research projects, both in and out of the tanks.
I'm also a long-time supporter of both history and the arts, founding non-profits and serving on boards at the highest levels on local historical and arts foundations.
At home I renovate our old house, experiment with 3D printing and hydroponics, and raise koi in a pond my wife and I designed and hand dug.
